Meet Dr. Maria Astrid Urrutia, a proud Calgary native with a lifelong passion for dentistry! She graduated from the University of Calgary in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science with Distinction, then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Alberta in 2004. To further hone her skills, Dr. Urrutia completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Diploma at the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston, TX in 2005.
Dr. Urrutia’s love for dentistry began in her teenage years while working as a dental assistant for her father, a well-known prosthodontist in Calgary. Her dedication to the profession is unwavering, and she continually expands her knowledge through numerous Continuing Education courses each year. She’s been an active member of the Seattle Study Club, the American Dental Association, and the Texas Dental Association, and is also a certified Invisalign Provider.
After nearly 11 years of practicing in Houston, TX, Dr. Urrutia returned to her hometown of Calgary to practice dentistry with the highest standards. Known for her honesty, patience, gentleness, and compassion, she enjoys educating her patients on ways to improve their oral health. Dr. Urrutia is a proud member of the Alberta Dental Association and College, and the Canadian Dental Association.
Now the owner of Northland Smiles Dental, Dr. Urrutia feels right at home, as her father also practiced in the Northland Professional Building. It’s a true homecoming for her!
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Urrutia loves traveling with her family, spending time with friends, and cherishing moments with her daughters as they grow.
